Pike can be really aggressive which can actually make them easier to catch. Here are some tips.
They grow to a relatively large size: the average length is about 70–120 cm (28–47 in). Even so, lengths of up to 150 cm (59 in) and weights of 25 kg (55 lb) are very rare.
The best way to catch them is to use a long rod about 7 feet with a medium to heavy action. It’s best to have sturdiness in the lower half to accommodate the weight, but the top half nimble for ease and accuracy of casting.
A 20 pound test monofilament strength fishing line or a 50 pound test braid fishing line are the ideal ones to choose.
Have a baitcasting reel and have a wire leader on your line (at least a foot long). These are essential to prevent the pike’s sharp teeth severing your line.
You can use either live or dead bait. Pike like to feed on fish that are 1/3 the size of their length but can and will feed on smaller fish. Alternatively you can use a spoon lure. You can also consider buck tails, spinner baits, jigs and prop baits.
